IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A LUXURY TRIP
We want travelers to understand this experience before booking.
This trip is for the traveler who wants to see, learn, listen and experience.
Southern Ethiopia requires significant road travel between communities. Some driving days may be several hours long, and roads may be paved, unpaved, dusty or uneven.
Transportation throughout the region will primarily be in 4x4 safari vehicles.
There may be limited food selections in rural areas. Travelers will be provided meals, but this is not a destination where extensive menus or American-style dining options should be expected.
Wi-Fi may be slow, unreliable or completely unavailable in some locations.
Cellular service may also be limited.
Travelers should be comfortable being disconnected.
If you require luxury hotels, consistent Wi-Fi, extensive food selections, nightlife or resort-style amenities, this may not be the Melanin Globe experience for you.
If you want authentic cultural immersion and an opportunity to experience communities and traditions that many travelers never encounter, this trip may be exactly what you have been looking for.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Travelers should be comfortable:
Getting in and out of 4x4 vehicles
Walking on uneven and unpaved surfaces
Walking through villages and markets
Being outdoors in warm temperatures
Spending several hours traveling by vehicle
Managing their own luggage
Experiencing environments without elevators or traditional accessibility infrastructure
This itinerary may not be appropriate for travelers with significant mobility limitations.
PACKING
Because we will be using domestic aircraft and 4x4 vehicles, packing light will be strongly encouraged.
Travelers should plan to bring practical clothing and comfortable closed-toe walking shoes.
Recommended items include:

Sunscreen
Strong insect repellent
Small portable fan
Portable charger/power bank
Personal medications

CULTURAL RESPECT
This experience allows us to enter communities where people live, raise families and maintain traditions that are deeply important to them.
These communities are not attractions.
Travelers are expected to approach every interaction respectfully and with curiosity rather than judgment.
Photography may not always be permitted without permission. Travelers should follow the direction of our local guides before photographing individuals, children, homes, ceremonies or cultural practices.
We encourage travelers to learn, ask respectful questions and remain open to lifestyles and customs that may be very different from their own.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is required for all Melanin Globe experiences.
IMPORTANT TRAVEL NOTICE
Travel conditions, government requirements, cultural access, road conditions and local security conditions can change.
Melanin Globe and our local partners reserve the right to modify accommodations, transportation, cultural visits or itinerary routing when necessary for traveler safety or operational reasons.
Travelers should understand that flexibility is an important part of participating in an experience of this nature.
WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE YOUR TRIP?
You may be subject to passport/or visa requirements to travel to your destination. Passport processing often takes several months and could take longer during peak travel periods. We recommend that you give yourself time to obtain a valid passport. Some international destinations require your passport to be valid for a certain period of time after your date of departure. Please review all international destination entry requirements prior to traveling.
We’re dedicated to your health and safety and our goal is to ensure your well-being at every step of your trip.

This is my second trip with Melanin Globe and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Nicole is AMAZING - I was a late addition to this trip and she was very helpful in making sure that I had the correct details for flights as well as the dates and itineraries. She was very professional in making sure that we were always on time, but still managed to spend time with each person to make them feel comfortable, ( which meant a lot to me as a solo traveler celebrating her birthday…)
This trip truly made me feel like I was with family instead of being with 15 individuals that I just met. I truly appreciate the opportunity and look forward to booking another trip.

Such an amazing experience!!!
After a couple of past hiccups with travel agencies, I was honestly a little hesitant about using one again—especially for a trip across the world. But Melanin Global completely exceeded my expectations and did not disappoint in any way. The itinerary was full but not overwhelming, hotel and amenities awesome and took care of us from beginning to end, thanks Mira and team.
The true feather in their cap was our tour guide, Manuel, and our personal driver, Francis. They were the ultimate “need-to-know” people in Ghana. Their knowledge, connections, and intuition opened doors we never would’ve found on our own. They didn’t just show us Ghana—they helped us feel it. The people, the culture, the history, the rhythm of life—this was truly the experience of a lifetime.
Without them, we never would’ve experienced Ghana the way we did. I learned so much about how life was intended to be for our community, and I brought a piece of that wisdom home with me.
I cannot overstate how safe I felt the entire time. Even when we were given space to explore independently as a group, we always knew they were nearby and present. As a group of women travelers, I have never felt so genuinely taken care of, protected, and respected.
And let’s not forget—Manuel somehow doubled as our personal videographer and photographer. The quality was absolutely amazing and something I’ll treasure forever.
Before leaving the States, I experienced the most painful personal tragedies of my life and almost canceled the trip altogether. I am so grateful I didn’t. This journey gave me something I didn’t even know I needed. I came back home feeling deeply proud of where I come from—it truly felt like going home.
I will always be thankful for this experience and for the people who guided me through such an incredible, healing, and unforgettable journey. I made new family!
A couple of suggestions, for planning purposes, make sure tourist know how bumpy and long the ride is to Cape Coast. I would've loved to have some seat cushions, pillows and blankets on that day. It was still amazing and felt very authentic but just to make sure people are prepared..LOL
Until next time.
